Abstract
This chapter argues that human capital strategies are a key function of a firm’s ability to sustain a competitive advantage. In the private and public sectors, the competition for high performers is intense. In this paper, the author discusses emergent human capital strategies as firms compete to attract, develop, and retain a multigenerational workforce. Moreover, the author addresses the emergent trend of transitioning from a traditional human resource paradigm to a contingent worker human capital development framework. Finally, the author posits the challenges of outsourcing as a human capital strategy on organizational development and the firm. . .
